Peppa Pig’s phenomenally fun children’s series has become such a sensation that she’s getting her own theme park. The Lunz Group collaborated with Barton Malow and Merlin Entertainment Group to design LEGOLAND® Florida Resort’s newest themed entertainment venue, opening soon in Winter Haven, Florida.
“We are very proud to be working with Merlin Entertainment to design the very first Peppa Pig Theme Park in the US,” said Lunz Group Principal and Architect of Record Tim Wagoner. “This signature park will bring Peppa’s world to life for young children visiting Florida and has been a wonderful experience for The Lunz Group.”
Designer and Project Manager Miranda Crowe also described her excitement in working on the project. “Many of us have children in our lives obsessed with Peppa Pig, so when we learned we would be working with Merlin on this theme park, the whole team was ecstatic!” she said.
The Lunz Group’s past experience with the site and client, combined with our team’s expertise in themed entertainment design, paved the way for a successful partnership. But our core belief in collaborative problem-solving added another dimension of value and trust among the team.
One example of this was the challenge presented by Florida’s sunny weather. “It was very important for this project that there be plenty of shade,” said Wagoner. “We worked closely with the client, our landscape architect, and the ride vendor’s drawings to creatively optimize shade opportunities for each attraction in the park. This creates a better guest experience and ultimately helps our client.”
Visitors to the new park will immerse themselves in the fun-tastic world of Peppa Pig. They’ll take a ride on Daddy Pig’s Roller Coaster, soar to the sky in Peppa Pig’s Balloon Ride, and sail away on Granddad Dog’s Pirate Boat Ride. Additional rides include Grampy Rabbit’s Dinosaur Adventure, Mr. Bull’s High Striker, and Peppa’s Pedal Bike Tour.
The park will also feature the signature Muddy Puddles splash pad, free games at the Fun Fair, and many other engaging areas to explore including Grandpa Pig’s Greenhouse, Rebecca Rabbit’s playhouse, George’s Fort, and Peppa Pig’s treehouse. When guests need a moment to unwind, they’ll be able to watch a favorite Peppa Pig episode at The Cinema or catch a live show at Mr. Potato’s Showtime Arena.
“Not only will this positively impact the accommodations and restaurants within the LEGOLAND® Florida Resort footprint, but, as with the original park, this will impact the other locally owned hotels, restaurants, retailers and family entertainment venues,” said Katie Worthington Decker, CEO of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce. “Merlin Entertainment’s continued expansion also creates more job opportunities for Polk Countians to begin their careers with the world’s second largest entertainment company.”
Although an exact date has not been announced, the new park is slated to open in 2022 at the LEGOLAND® Florida Resort.
